My main guess is GPU overheating or a CPU error. Neither use the same engine, so it's unlikely that it's the games that are doing this, but rather a general GPU issue. I'm currently experiencing this with Mass Effect 1 and 2 now. Only this last year have I really started playing on my TV, and only for one game in the past did this ever happen to me (Dead Space 1 and 2).

In 7 years this has never happened to my laptop's screen. So this is definitely an issue with the laptopĤ) This happens regardless of whether the game I play is demanding, however, this still only happens during gaming on an external display. The signal to the TV is clearly stopping because the TV says "no signal found" only AFTER the laptop itself freezes. No other device I have does this to me, only the laptop. I cannot tell if my ALT+TAB does anything, but I do know that pressing the power button to shut down does nothing which probably indicates a system freezeģ) The TV is not the culprit because it has multiple connections that continue to function despite the video signal dropping or freezing. This happens only during gaming, regardless of graphical intensityĢ) During this black screen, nothing I do seems to work. Instead, the music of the game is playing as if nothing is wrong.

The HDMI from laptop to external display (my 1080p TV) cuts out, audio remains on but is not looping like in a normal freeze despite the screen being black. ::::Troubleshooting steps I've tried already and some info about the problem::::ġ) HDMI is a 1.3 with High Speed Data Transfer and Ethernet. The system cannot be recovered and a forced shutdown is the only way to resolve the issue until it happens again. Only when I game does this happen, where the HDMI feed to my TV suddenly drops the video signal but audio is still playing. I have recently begun having a somewhat regular but seemingly random HDMI cut-out issue.
